Title/강연제목:  Have Performance Will Travel: Contemporary Artistic Networks in Southeast Asia

                      “공연이 있다면 어디든 간다!”: 현대 동남아시아 예술의 네트워크 

Abstract

This talk will look at the ways in which contemporary artists use travel and attendance at regional performance festivals to create networks that facilitate creative expression and transcend the local. These circuits are sometimes the only means for these artists to gain exposure to international artists but they are also a means of survival. Furthermore, they represent a micro-artistic environment that in some way challenges the theories of the global as a wide world network.

이 강연은 현대 예술가들이 여행과 각지의 공연 페스티벌에 참가함으로써 네트워크를 만들어내고, 이를 통해 창의적인 표현을 생성하고 지역성을 초월하는 여러 가지 방식에 대해 살펴볼 것이다. 이러한 순회는 어떤 경우에는 단지 이 지역의 예술가들이 국제무대의 예술가들과 접촉할 수단에 지나지 않지만 동시에 그들의 생존수단이기도 하다. 또한 그들은 모종의 방식으로 전 지구적 네트워크로서의 글로벌 이론에 도전하는 미시적 예술 환경을 대표한다.

About Speaker 

Prof. Nora A. Taylor

Dr. Nora A. Taylor is Alsdorf Professor of South and Southeast Asian Art History at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is author of Painters in Hanoi: An Ethnography of Vietnamese Art (Hawaii 2004 and Singapore Press 2009) and co-editor of Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art: An Anthology (Cornell SEAP 2012). She has published widely on Vietnamese Modern and Contemporary Art. She is the recent recipient of a John Solomon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and working on a project that examines the politics of history in Southeast Asian Performance art.

Taylor 박사는 SAIC(the School of the Art Institute of Chicago)의 남아시아-동남아시아 예술사 Alsdorf 교수이다. 그녀는 Painters in Hanoi: An Ethnography of Vietnamese Art (Hawaii 2004 and Singapore Press 2009)의 저자인 동시에 Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art: An Anthology (Cornell SEAP 2012)의 공동 편자로 그동안 베트남 근•현대예술에 대해 광범위한 저술활동을 해왔다. 그녀는 최근 John Solomon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship을 받았으며 동남아시아 행위예술 속에서 역사정치학을 연구하는 프로젝트에 참여하고 있다.
