Statement

서울대학교 고고미술사학과를 졸업하고 University of Minnesota에서 인도 근현대 미술사와 이슬람 미술사를 공부하였다. 19세기 자이나교 성지의 역사서술과 건축, 회화를 통해 나타나는 근대적 종교 정체성에 대한 주제로 박사학위를 받았다. 2011년부터 2015년까지 한국외국어대학교 인도어과 교수로 있었으며, 2015년 아시아언어문명학부 교수로 임용되었다. 인도 근현대사에 나타나는 예술과 문화, 교육제도 등을 통하여 식민 통치의 역사를 지닌 이들이 근대성과 종교, 민족주의를 자기화하는 과정을 이해하고자 노력하고 있다.
